oklahoma , kansas, (& kansas city, missouri)
spring 2003

This was only a practice roadtrip, not a real one. Over Memorial Day weekend I headed up an Orange Show Eyeopeners Tour, so this was just a research & logistics visit. I know what you're saying - "Uhhhhh....what's up there?" Up there is a feast of one-of-a-kind art & architecture.
Let's head up and over the Flint Hills, through the tallgrass prairie, past the grand fountains and art deco masterpieces of Kansas City, and take a look...

The Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Tulsa, OK

Frank Lloyd Wright's Price Tower, Bartlesville, OK
(now open as the Inn at Price Tower)

the incredible Marland Mansion, Ponca City, OK

Sculptor, Painter, and Local Deity:
Dan Beck of Wichita, KS

Moshe Safdie's Exploration Place, Wichita, KS

The Davis Memorial, Hiawatha, KS

Bruce Goff's Nicol House, Kansas City, MO

The Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, MO

I didn't go on this field trip, but when I returned with the group tour in May, we visited those folk art meccas, Totem Pole Park in Foyil OK, The Garden of Eden in Lucas KS, and The Grassroots Arts Center, also in Lucas.
